Where Have I Been?

Welcome to the talented writer TangledLou from Periphery.
Lovely Lilly at The Incoherent Ramblings Of A Moose was wondering where I've been...

I have four blogs in my reading list that seem to have died not long after I started following them. I don't take this personally, I don't think I killed them...well I hope not. I understand how passions run into and out of our lives, which is why I haven't done anything for long enough to become expert at it.
I haven't been writing much lately, I like to make a post a work of art and some hesitation has slowed me but don't worry, my blog is not dying. I love all the people I've met here in blogland and wish I could hug you guys for real but here's a poor substitute  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (for my followers and a few extra hugs for lurkers).

Apart from posting some art on google+, I've been exploring new mediums in an art course at college one day a week.
At the moment the subject is printmaking, which I thought at first might not be interesting but it is wonderful! Our teacher, Sara Bowen is very talented and a nice woman to spend a day playing with, because that's what we have been doing. First we did stamping.

We stamped using ready made stamps...

We stamped using found stuff like mesh bags and the soles of children's sandals...

We made rubber stamps cut out of erasers (I made a brick and a little man with a briefcase) and we stamped some more...

I kinda got immersed in the rush hour theme and a dozen prints and hundreds of stamps later...

I haven't got anything funny to say in this post. Oh except that on the first day I made an ass of myself and accidentally broke my teacher's artwork.

  1. I love your little briefcase man... That last one evokes a sort of dreamy claustrophobia for me. So jealous you're taking an art class- lucky! I'm going to look in to art classes in September when i've got Kee sorted out with school. Can't wait. :)

  2. Julie, like Lily I was also wondering where you were. I have you on my list of blogs I follow, which shows up on my dashboard. You were not showing up, so I had figured you had not been writing anything since "Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice" I decided to just click on your blog today, and read some of your past stuff, and lo and behold, you had some more recent posts that have not shown up on my list.

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue, but I am going to try to figure it out.

Love the artwork! The art above the Man with the briefcase looks like Thumbprints.
Art classes can be such calming self therapy.

    1. JR, I don't know what's going on with the reader thing. You and Lilly are still in my followers list.
That was a surprise to me about the thumbprint soled shoe. I didn't realize till someone pointed it out.
It's a fun class and yes - great therapy!

  3. I love the rush hour pieces! They just amazing - especially since you made the stamps. I would frame those in all of their glorious, rushing chaos!

    1. Thanks Tangled. It's amazing how engrossed you can get in the stamping thing, I must have done about a dozen variations on the them of the crowd and buildings.

  4. Very cool, Julie!
    :)
I loved printmaking when i did it in college, a million years ago.

I am sure you will greatly enjoy the entire course!

I've missed your art on G+ by the way.
    Take good care.
    Best wishes!

    1. Hi Nina. Yes it is fun. I did my art training back in 1975 but I left 6 months before the end of the Cert 4 course to take up a commercial artist position offered to me after meeting my future boss at a posh party one evening. The learning is more fun this time round.

  5. Wow, the stamp art is so cool. I love your men with briefcases in rush hour. Just awesome. For some reason your most recent posts were not showing up in my reader and when I went to visit your your blog last week- the most recent post was the guest post. It's so weird. I didn't want you to think I was rude for not commenting on your latest entries.

  7. The stamping is really fun - thoroughly recommended.
My blog going AWOL? Yep, felt unloved and unwanted until I realized there was a hiccup and people weren't ignoring me...weep...weep
